JmD--I realize this is not the high tech trick that everyone so anxiously awaits but a really simple (read.cheap) solution for a tripmeter is the lowly grease pencil. At fillup simply write the last 3 digits from your odometer in small numbers onto the glass of your speedometer. At the next fill you just continue to do the same till you are ready to erase/wipe them off.
